About the publication
An independent journal for people who buy, sell and run heavy equipment
Machinery Field Journal reports on the American used equipment market: the machines, the dealers, the inspections and the economics. We write for contractors, farm operators, fleet managers and first-time buyers who want facts with sources attached.
What we publish
Four kinds of work appear here. Dealer spotlights profile individual equipment sellers from their published record: what they say about themselves, what they list, what third parties have published about them and what a buyer should verify. Equipment reports explain how model ranges are organised and where used examples wear. Buying guides set out the sequence experienced buyers follow. Market insights cover the regional and national forces that move prices and availability.
Our first dealer spotlight, on MF Equipment of McDavid, Florida, shows the method: every claim is attributed to a dated source, the dealer’s own statements are separated from ours, third-party ratings are credited to the platforms that publish them, and the inconsistencies we find are reported rather than smoothed over.
Independence
Machinery Field Journal is not owned by, affiliated with or paid by any equipment dealer, manufacturer, auction house, lender or review platform that it writes about. We do not accept payment for coverage, we do not sell placements inside editorial content, and we do not publish ratings of our own. If that ever changes, this page and our editorial policy will say so first.
We link to dealers’ and review platforms’ websites so that readers can check our sourcing. Those links are not endorsements, and we mark them so that search engines do not treat them as such.
How we work
- We read the primary source, in full, on a recorded date, and we keep a copy.
- We state what we did and did not do for every profile, including whether we visited, called or transacted.
- We treat inventory counts, prices, ratings and review counts as snapshots that change, and we date them.
- We do not fabricate quotations, testimonials, ratings, reporting or credentials, and we do not present unverified claims as confirmed.
- We use openly licensed photography of representative machines, credited in place, and we say when an image is not of the specific unit discussed.
- Research and drafting tools, including software-assisted writing tools, may be used in preparing our work; a human editor is responsible for every published fact, and every fact is tied to a listed source.
Who writes this
Articles are credited to the Machinery Field Journal editorial staff rather than to individual bylines. We do not publish named author profiles or professional credentials that have not been confirmed, and we will add individual bylines only when the people behind them can be identified and contacted. Publisher details that are still being confirmed are listed in the panel on this page as pending rather than filled in with placeholders.
Corrections and right of reply
If we have published something inaccurate, we want to know. Dealers and companies we profile are invited to respond; we will publish material corrections and note the date of the change on the article. See the contact page for how to reach us and the corrections section of our editorial policy for how we handle them.
